De bevalling: rozengeur en maneschijn?

“Je komt het verloskwartier binnen, de vroedvrouw overvalt je met allerlei vragen, binnen een enkele minuten lig je aan de monitor en kan je geen kant meer op…”
Je hoorde waarschijnlijk ook al eens de verhalen van een bevalling die niet verliep zoals men hoopte.
De bevalling is voor sommigen een beangstigende gebeurtenis.

 

Angst om te bevallen, hoe komt dat nu?

Een zekere angst is normaal, maar vrouwen met FOC (Fear of Childbirth, angst voor de bevalling) zien de arbeid en bevalling als iets oncontroleerbaar, onbekend en beangstigend.
Er zijn heel wat factoren die meespelen, maar de overvloed aan informatie en ook alle sensationele (reality) series maken dat zwangere dames een verkeerd beeld krijgen van deze gebeurtenis.
Het psychologische welzijn van de vrouw, haar leeftijd, de gevoeligheid voor angst, eerdere negatieve ervaringen maar ook de relatie met de partner spelen een rol.
Deze angst heeft een grote invloed op de arbeid, de bevalling en zelfs de periode erna. Waardoor een systematische screening zich opdringt.

 

Angst om te bevallen en wat nu?

Het therapeutisch aanbod is zeer uitgebreid en kan sterk variëren. Zowel individuele als groepssessies worden aangeboden.

Door een goede fysieke en emotionele ondersteuning, zowel van de partner als van deskundigen, kan men het (negatieve) beeld op de bevalling veranderen en meer vrouwen aanzetten tot een gewone bevalling.

 

Bevallen nu!

Om een bevalling in goede banen te leiden is een zekere basiskennis nodig.
Om professionelen die slechts uitzonderlijk een bevalling begeleiden (bv. spoedarts) te ondersteunen, werd de bevalling stap voor stap in beeld gebracht. Men krijgt de kans zicht te verdiepen in de technieken voor, tijdens en na de bevalling.
Twee soorten bevallingen werden in beeld gebracht: de eerste is een gewone bevalling zoals ze meestal voorkomen (het achterhoofd wordt eerst geboren), de tweede bevalling betreft een baby waarbij het aangezicht eerst geboren wordt. Dit is een uitzonderlijke situatie, vele artsen verkiezen een keizersnede, hoewel een vaginale bevalling soms nog mogelijk is.

 

 

Bevallen blijft een bijzondere gebeurtenis die gepaard gaat met vele emoties. Het is belangrijk de zwangere vrouw hierin goed te ondersteunen, dit met de nodige kennis en ervaring, om zo de ontwikkeling van FOC tegen te gaan. Een goede voorbereiding, van de zwangere, haar omgeving alsook van de hulpverleners, kan ervoor zorgen dat een bevalling een mooie en uitzonderlijke beleving wordt.
