Ondanks miljoenen euro's steun van de EU loopt er volgens verschillende rapporten nog steeds veel mis op democratisch en mensenrechtelijk vlak in Somalië. In deze scriptie wordt de vraag gesteld in hoeverre en in welke mate het externe beleid van de EU een impact heeft op de mensenrechtensituatie in Somalië.

Deze thesis voert onderzoek naar de non-architectuur van Fedasil bij het omvormen van leegstaande institutionele gebouwen naar opvangcentra voor asielzoekers. Een eerste deel biedt een historisch en theoretisch kader, waarna een tweede deel aan de hand van twee concrete casestudies het argument verder onderbouwt.

Deze masterproef handelt over één van de grootste na-oorlogse rampen van België: de brand in de Innovation. 251 mensen lieten er het leven. Er wordt onderzocht wat de impact van de brand op de Belgische maatschappij was en op welke manier deze Belgische casus een bijdrage kan zijn voor het nieuwe, interdisciplinaire onderzoeksdomein van de Disaster Studies.
