De crisis die de afgelopen jaren over Europa heen waaide, heeft ook in België zijn strepen achtergelaten. Cijfers van de FOD Economie tonen aan dat er sinds 2009 een algemeen stijgende werkloosheidstendens in België is.Ten tweede toont de Vlaamse zakenkrant ‘De Tijd’ aan dat ook het aantal startende vennootschappen in Vlaanderen een negatieve trend volgt van 2007 tot en met 2013. Multinationals beslissen altijd in functie van hun eigen winstcijfer. Als het buitenland een betere optie biedt, is er dus geen garantie dat zij actief blijven in België. Op deze manier beïnvloeden zijde werkloosheid. Een oplossing wordt aangeboden door de lokale ondernemers. Deze kunnen via de invulling van meerdere marktopportuniteiten [portfolio ondernemen] de tewerkstelling doen heropleven of verbeteren. Deze studie onderzoekt de manier waarop potentiële portfolio ondernemers hun kwaliteiten kunnen ontwikkelen, dit in het kader van een opleidings- en begeleidingsmodule.Hiervoor behandelen zowel de literatuurstudie (hoofdstuk 2), als het praktijkonderzoek (hoofdstuk 3), dezelfde onderwerpen. Er worden twee stromingen onderzocht: de beste onderwijsvorm voor ondernemers en de inhoud die een dergelijke module moet bevatten. Ten eerste kan er geconcludeerd worden dat de zakelijke motivatie een ondernemer echt onderscheidt van een portfolio ondernemer. Er zijn twee zakelijke motivaties die een ondernemer aanzetten tot portfolio ondernemen: de exploitatie van marktopportuniteiten en de ondersteuning van eerdere activiteiten. Ten tweede wordt er vastgesteld welke onderwijsvorm het best past voor een ondernemer. Aan de hand van twee programma’s van VOKA en UNIZO wordt er besloten dat een ondernemer het liefst één maal per maand samenkomt. Dit doen ze het liefst in een beperkte groep van ongeveer vijftien deelnemers. De beste manier om hiervan te leren is door een combinatie te voorzien van een theoretische uiteenzetting via een professionele spreker of expert en een praktijkgerichte uiteenzetting via ervaringsuitwisselingen. De verschillende vormen die een ervaringsuitwisseling kan aannemen worden verder besproken in hoofdstuk 3. Ten derde worden de referenten besproken. Hieruit kan besloten worden dat een referent drie verschillende vormen kan aannemen: een professor, een ervaringsdeskundige van het te behandelen onderwerp (bijvoorbeeld een consultant of advocaat) of een vakgerichte trainer (zoals een facilitator of ondernemer).Verder moet de inhoud van een sessie vooraf, in onderling overleg, worden vastgelegd. Hieraan gekoppeld moet een organisator ook rekening houden met de eisen van een referent zoals het aantal deelnemers en de klasvorm (kring, U-vorm of andere mogelijkheden). Andere drempels staan vermeld in hoofdstuk 3. Ten vierde worden de verschillende eigenschappen opgesomd die een ondernemer moet bezitten om nieuwe marktopportuniteiten te kunnen herkennen (zie hoofdstuk 3). Dit onderzoek stelt ook vast dat de naambekendheid van de ondernemer of onderneming hiertoe kan bijdragen.Verder worden ook verschillende technieken toegelicht die een ondernemer helpen om een marktopportuniteit te herkennen. Zo kan een ondernemer meegaan in trends of kopiëren van andere sectoren, maar ook andere technieken worden hier aangehaald. Ten vijfde wordt de verdere begeleiding van ondernemers besproken. Het herkennen van een opportuniteit is namelijk niet voldoende. Bij de exploitatie ervan moet er rekening worden gehouden met verschillende aspecten, onder meer de juridische factoren en de juiste strategische marketingkeuze. Via een peterschapsproject worden ondernemers hierin begeleid. Tot slot wordt er een voorstel gedaan voor een opleidings- en begeleidingsmodule. Hierin komen alle voorgaande aspecten terug en deze worden samengevat in één module. Dit is terug te vinden in hoofdstuk 4.
