Het effect van leiderschapsstijl op welzijn: de modererende invloed van de gendercompositie van de dyade leidinggevende-ondergeschikte.

Opzet: Het doel van deze studie is de bestaande literatuur omtrent de relatie tussen leiderschap en het welzijn van de onderschikte aan te vullen. Onderzoek naar het modererend effect van het al of niet gelijk zijn van het geslacht van de leidinggevende en de ondergeschikte op de relatie tussen leiderschapsstijl en welzijn ontbreekt nagenoeg.
Methode en participanten: Gegevens van een representatieve steekproef van 3659 doctorandi verbonden aan de verschillende Vlaamse universiteiten werden verzameld aan de hand van een cross-sectionele, online vragenlijst. De CLIO werd gebruikt om transformationeel-, transactioneel-, laissez-faire- en autocratisch leiderschap in kaart te brengen. Welzijn werd in kaart gebracht aan de hand van de GHQ-12. Leeftijd, geslacht en burgerlijke staat werden opgenomen als controlevariabelen.
Resultaten: Hiërarchische logistische regressie analyse toont een marginaal significant positief verband tussen transformationeel leiderschap en welzijn en een significant positief verband tussen transactioneel leiderschap en welzijn. Laissez-faire- en autocratisch leiderschap hangen beiden negatief significant samen met het welzijn van de ondergeschikte. De interactie-effecten tussen de vier leiderschapsstijlen en de gendercompositie van de dyade leidinggevende-ondergeschikte op de relatie tussen leiderschapsstijl en welzijn zijn niet significant.
Conclusie: De resultaten suggereren dat leidinggevenden geen rekening hoeven te houden met de gendercompositie van de dyade leidinggevende-ondergeschikte wanneer ze bezorgd zijn om het welzijn van hun medewerkers. De specifieke leiderschapsstijl die ze hanteren is wel van belang.

Leiderschap en welzijn, maakt sexe uit?

Sinds 2014 is de nieuwe welzijnswet van kracht. Als het welzijn van werknemers niet al een hot-topic was, dan is het sindsdien zeker wel zo. Dat de stijl die een leider hanteert bij het opvolgen van zijn medewerkers een invloed heeft op het welzijn van zijn ondergeschikten, staat al langer vast. Maar hoe zit het met de gendercompositie van leidinggevende en ondergeschikte? Deze studie van Chiara San Giorgi onder leiding van dr. Katia Levecque ging na hoe die gendercompositie de relatie tussen leiderschapsstijl en welzijn van de ondergeschikte beïnvloedt. En wat bleek? Tot vreugde van de onderzoeksters maakt het niet uit wat het geslacht is van de leidinggevende en ondergeschikte voor het welzijn van de ondergeschikte. De resultaten waren exact waarop gehoopt werd, want stel dat de gendercompositie wel een invloed had, hoe zou dat ooit in de praktijk toegepast kunnen worden?
