Een studie naar hoe het effect van het naderen van de houdbaarheidsdatum op de WTP van een product wordt beïnvloed door een transparante verpakking.

Transparante verpakking doet de consument niet meer betalen

Antwerpen - Een masterstudent Marketing Management aan de KU Leuven onderzocht onder 167 respondenten of het bedrag, dat zij voor een product willen betalen, afhangt van de houdbaarheidsdatum en/of een transparante verpakking waarin de zalmfilet zichtbaar is.
Uit eerdere onderzoeken blijkt dat het naderen van de houdbaarheidsdatum van een product maakt dat de consument hiervoor minder wil betalen. Dit onderzoek bevestigt dit.
Op basis van eerder onderzoek bestaat verder de verwachting dat de consument door een transparante verpakking een lagere korting verwacht voor een product dat de houdbaarheidsdatum nadert. Uit dit onderzoek blijkt echter dat het bedrag, dat de consument wil betalen, hetzelfde is voor een product met of zonder transparante verpakking.
Bij producten met een naderende houdbaarheidsdatum lopen supermarkten dus het risico dat zij met deze producten blijven zitten als zij de volle prijs blijven vragen. Nu al compenseren supermarkten de consument steeds meer in zijn aankoop van deze producten met een korting. Aangezien de consument in het geval van een transparante verpakking geen lagere korting verwacht, is er voor de supermarkten geen aanleiding om in hun kortingenbeleid onderscheid te maken tussen producten met of zonder transparante verpakking.
