Genderinclusief beauty, een realiteit of utopie?

Wist je dat historisch gezien zowel mannen als vrouwen make-up droegen? Make-up is dus niet altijd exclusief voor vrouwen geweest. Over de eeuwen heen, is dit drastisch veranderd. Een sterk stigma rond mannen die make-up dragen is ontstaan. Beauty Gurus, vloggers die beauty gerelateerde video’s maken, proberen deze stigma te doorbreken.


De meest populaire Beauty Gurus vandaag, maken deel uit van de LGBTQI+ community (Lesbisch, Gay, Biseksueel, Transgender, Queer & Interseks). Denk aan Jeffree Star of Nikkie Tutorials. Zij geven actief vorm aan de toekomstige beauty wereld. Toch is bestaand onderzoek naar queer Beauty Gurus zo goed als onbestaand. Daarom brengt dit onderzoek, met inclusie als focus, een meer genuanceerde benadering aan bestaand wetenschappelijk onderzoek over Beauty Gurus.

Deze studie heeft tot doel de sentimenten van het publiek ten opzichte van YouTube-video-onderwerpen van queer Beauty Gurus te bepalen. Een sentimentanalyse van 800 YouTube comments werd uitgevoerd.

De resultaten leiden tot indrukwekkende facts & figures, zoals… spoiler alert: YouTube-video-onderwerpen van Queer Beauty Gurus met meer positieve sentimenten in de YouTube comments dan negatieve zijn niet per se degene met de meeste likes!
