An Istanbul Tale - A Research on Identity and Belonging
Het onderzoek en project stellen de vraag: ‘Hoe kan de praktijk van het vertellen en het verhalen vertellen worden verweven met culturele identiteit?’, met de nadruk op de thema’s migratie, erbij horen, identiteit en traditionele Turkse volkskunst van vertellen en weven. Het onderzoek, dat zich concentreert op Istanbul en zich richt op de thema’s migratie en ontheemding, geeft een korte geschiedenis van de stad. Elk woord waaruit de onderzoeksvraag bestaat, wordt afzonderlijk onderzocht op zijn betekenis binnen de context van de genoemde thema’s. De genoemde traditionele Turkse kunstvormen richten zich op de tradities van het weven en het vertellen van verhalen, waarbij voorbeelden worden gegeven van Turkse kunstenaars. De studie onderzoekt hoe verschillende kunstenaars deze sleutelwoorden en de genoemde thema’s hebben toegepast in hun eigen praktijk. Door voorbeelden te presenteren uit de praktijken van het weven en het vertellen van verhalen, biedt dit onderzoek een voorstel voor hoe de concepten migratie, erbij horen en identiteit kunnen worden aangepast van volkskunst naar hedendaagse praktijken. Verder wordt onderzocht hoe deze twee praktijken in het licht van deze sleutelwoorden en thema’s op elkaar kunnen inwerken. Met het eindwerk en de methodologie wordt een manier geboden om deze kunstvormen aan te passen aan de hedendaagse praktijk. Ten slotte wordt gesuggereerd dat de begrippen identiteit en erbij horen veranderlijk zijn en aan verandering onderhevig zijn, waardoor het individu wordt uitgenodigd om zijn of haar eigen gevoel van erbij horen in vraag te stellen.
