The role of melatonin in reducing chemotherapy-induced jejunal toxicity in a mouse-model for hepatocellular carcinoma
While chemotherapy is a key component of cancer treatment, it often damages healthy gastrointestinal cells, resulting in toxicity marked by symptoms such as diarrhea, pain, and impaired nutrient absorption. The damage disrupts the gut mucosal barrier integrity and epithelial function, compromising the patient well-being and treatment continuity. These side effects limit chemotherapy’s effectiveness and highlight the need for protective strategies targeting the gut. This study investigates the
potential protective effect of melatonin in mitigating chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal toxicity.
