In de literatuur wordt vaak geopperd dat online seksuele delinquenten beschouwd worden als een groep met aparte kenmerken, los van de kenmerken van hand-on seksuele delinquenten. Echter is onderzoek naar online seksuele delinquenten schaars. Daarbij is weinig geweten over de affectregulatie van online seksuele delinquenten en of zij gebaat zijn bij dezelfde emotieregulatietraining die vaak wordt gebruikt voor hands-on seksuele delinquenten.

Deze studie wil, door middel van vragenlijsten, onderzoeken of experiëntiële vermijding, problemen met affectregulatie en seks als coping, het plegen van hands-on en online seksuele misdrijven (mede) zou kunnen verklaren. Dit zou kunnen bijdragen aan het verbeteren van bestaande tertiaire preventieprogramma's voor online seksuele delinquenten in plaats van ze op dezelfde manier te behandelen als hands-on seksuele delinquenten.

In lijn met onze hypotheses zagen we dat het gebruik van experiëntiële emotieregulatie door emoties te erkennen, begrijpen en te uiten, de kans op het plegen van hands-on seksuele delicten significant verlaagt. Aan de andere kant lijkt het onderdrukken van emoties de kans op hands-on seksuele misdrijven juist te vergroten. Dit impliceert dat inzetten op adaptieve emotieregulatievaardigheden binnen de behandeling van hands-on seksuele delinquenten essentieel is.

Enkele veelbelovende katalysatoren voor de depolymerisatie van lignine en de dehydratie van 1,3-butaandiol werden gekarakteriseerd. Met behulp van enkele technieken werd de oa. de metaalverdeling op het oppervlak en de zuurheid en basisheid in kaart gebracht. Dit zorgde voor meer inzicht in de katalysatoreigenschappen en kan in de toekomst leidden tot de rendabele productie van duurzame biochemicaliën.

Het modern subject, het ego begrepen als de centrale en autonome materialisatie van rationaliteit of bewustzijn, krijgt binnen de Westerse traditie menigmaal het statuut van een soort sacrale feitelijkheid toegewezen. In dit werk zullen we doorheen een drieluik van essays pogen weerstand te bieden tegenover deze dominante egologische visie, die, zoals we zullen zien, resulteert in een betekenisloos relativisme en in politieke vruchteloosheid. Levinas en zijn visie op het subject als ethisch in zoverre deze gericht is op de Andere, zal gedurende dit project steeds een leidraad en houvast bieden.

We onderzoeken hoe wetenschappelijk bewijs van het verband tussen drivers van klimaatverandering en de impact en schade die ze veroorzaken, vertaald wordt naar juridisch bewijs van causaliteit in de rechtzaal. De wetenschap is in staat is om met hoge betrouwbaarheid causale verbanden aan te tonen. Samen met nieuwe juridische benaderingen vergroot dat de kansen op succes voor eisers in klimaatzaken.

A systematic and chronological overview of contemporary literature on horizontal organization (HO) is given; organizations with less hierarchy, more autonomy for the participants and tools for shared decision-making power: commons, cooperatives, participation/co-production and self-managing teams and organizations. This literature shows an evolution from 1900 towards an increasingly broad cultural understanding of organizations within the organizational sciences: at first the focus was only on the needs of the organization, nowadays a paradigm prevails that increasingly incorporates the needs of the participants and environmental factors.

Belgium had a turbulent electronic music scene during the 1990s, with a free, extravagant club scene and rocksolid music production. Unfortunately, this changed with repressive government actions against allegedly high drug consumption in nightclubs, Belgium's emerging electronic music festivals as competitors and increasingly difficult, obtainable party licences. Clubs are disappearing as fast as they were established, but something new is bubbling underground. As was the case earlier in Britain, France and the Netherlands, Belgian collectives are holding parties in forests, squats, fields, industrial estates and abandoned office buildings. These illegal raves or free parties are organised by soundsystem crews consisting of DJs, sound engineers, artists and music lovers. On the basis of interviews with five organisers and two partygoers, this study attempts to gain an insight into how these parties come about and what significance they acquire in the development of participants' individual and collective identities.

Klimaatopwarming, veranderingen in landgebruik en ruderalen. Een onderzoek naar de langetermijndynamiek in vegetatiesamenstelling in de Scandinavische bergen

Een onderzoek gebaseerd op numerieke modellen over het seizoensgebonden uitbarstingspatroon van de Villarricavulkaan in Chili. De jaarlijkse sneeuwcyclus wordt naar voor geschoven als mogelijke oorzaak voor dit patroon. De klimaatverandering kan ervoor zorgen dat de seizoenaliteit in het eruptiepatroon met de tijd verdwijnt.

Following the considerable attention of activity-based models in transportation planning and forecasting, and the necessity to understand and reveal the impacts of transportation policies, this paper aims to simulate and examine a population policy scenario. It explicitly uses FEATHERS, a demand-side activity-based model, operational for Flanders, Belgium. The ABM is required to estimate how the interzonal migration of Flanders’ population from small towns/villages to large, urbanized city areas will closely affect the daily activity-travel choices of the individuals. A current baseline scenario is executed alongside three migration scenarios that account for a spatial redistribution of the population (2%, 5%, 10%) with equal proportions. Results suggest an impact on mode choice during peak hours, with a significant shift from car as a driver to public transport. Besides mode choice, there is a considerable decrease in the total number of trips. As a result, the total vehicle kilometres travelled, and total vehicle hours travelled reduce remarkably. While on the contrary there is hardly any effect on the activity choice.

Dat de democratie tegenwoordig in een crisis toestand zit, is een algemeen gedeelde analyse. In tegenstelling tot de overheersende benadering stelt de agonistische visie op democratie dat dit komt door een tekort in plaats van een te veel aan politisering. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the organization of health care in Belgium. Different strategies have been implemented in order to avoid hospital crowding. Moreover, patients were advised not to come to the emergency department (ED) for non-urgent reasons. Meanwhile, recent studies have shown a decrease in ED visits for urgent conditions.

The aim of this study was to describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ED admissions for urgent diagnoses.

This paper quantitively investigates how consumers changed their purchasing choices since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how consumers plan to change their long-term purchasing choices post-pandemic. The purchasing choices investigated are firstly health-friendly food products (e.g., low sugar food), secondly environment-friendly products (e.g., sustainable products) and lastly products which are both health- and environment-friendly (e.g., locally produced food).

Evaluatie en differentiatie van dystonie en choreoathetose loopt moeizaam in de populatie met een dyskinetische vorm van hersenverlamming. Inzet van technologie in staat gedetailleerd data te bekomen en verwerken kan leiden tot meer accurate diagnosticering en behandeling, alsook een toegenomen kennis omtrent deze zeldzame aandoening. Deze studie was pionier in het valideren van een automatische differentiatie van dystonie en choreoathetose tijdens functionele taken van het bovenste lidmaat. Hiervoor werd gebruik gemaakt van innovatieve technieken zoals driedimensionale bewegingsanalyse en machine learning.

In een gekalibreerd overlapping generations model wordt het verband tussen vergrijzing en automatisering op theoretische wijze onderzocht. De resultaten worden empirisch gevalideerd door de bevindingen te toetsen aan werkelijke data. Automatisering kan een factor zijn die de negatieve impact van vergrijzing op per capita groei verzacht, maar het draagt wel bij aan toegenomen ongelijkheid tussen de opleidingsniveaus en een afnemend aandeel van arbeid in het nationaal inkomen.

In deze scriptie wordt de ventilatie van Campus Groep T onder de loep genomen. De ventilatie wordt helemaal in kaart gebracht en de werking geanalyseerd. De impact van de ventilatie op Covid-19 wordt ook onderzocht.

Chinese outward FDI increased sharply over the last decades, subjecting them to considerable
public debate. Yet, empirical research concerning Chinese investments in the EU is sparse. In
this thesis, we attempt to investigate in a comprehensive way if and how Chinese investments
in the EU differ from investments with other origins. Our empirical analysis focuses on factors
attracting Chinese investments in France and on how Chinese ownership affects the size, performance, and productivity of French firms. By applying an IV probit model, we find that that
higher international experience of the target firm attracts Chinese investors, but also that they
are comparatively less discouraged by the poorer financial health of their targets. Furthermore,
using an IV fixed effects model, we find clear evidence that Chinese ownership is associated
with a smaller size, poorer performance, and lower productivity of the French subsidiary. These
results remain valid after rigorous robustness testing by using propensity score matching and
restricting our sample to various subsamples, although the negative effect associated with Chinese ownership loses significance taking into account the level of democracy and annual growth
rate of the owner’s country. This may imply that Chinese investments are “special” by the
important role of the state and by the economic environment in China stimulating its firms to
catch up quickly.

In a highly unequal society, many young Brazilians suffer oppression based on their class, race, gender, sexual orientation and religion. In the transition to adulthood, a period that is already marked by important changes, this brings along specific needs that need to be met. This research answers how ICBIE, a cultural centre in Salvador da Bahia, tries to meet those needs by providing a
space for young people to participate in activities and volunteer. Young adults from the region and volunteers of ICBIE have participated in a survey and in-depth interviews to find the answer to the central question of this thesis:
“How does volunteering at ICBIE contribute to the personal and professional development of young adults living on the Itapagipe Peninsula of Salvador, Bahia?”. Their answers, insights and stories were complemented by observations and were compared with, and analyzed through the lens of
national data and concepts from Robert Havighurst, Social Justice Theory and Anti-Oppressive Practises. The results show that young adults face a multitude of obstacles, mostly related to oppressive practises. Classism is the form of
oppression that stood out, connecting almost all of the respondents. And while ICBIE can’t directly change the root of these oppressive practises, it mitigates the harmful effects caused by them, by creating a place where volunteers can
learn, take up responsibility, open their view on the world, create meaningful bonds, feel safe and loved, and cultivate hope and resilience for the future.

Mixed matrix membranen bestaan uit een polymeer en een nano-vulmateriaal. Deze membranen zijn veelbelovend voor het scheiden van CO2 uit het gasmengsel geproduceerd door energiecentrales. Welke nanomateriaal/polymeer combinaties resulteren in goede membranen is echter nog een vraagteken. In deze thesis wordt een stap genomen in de richting van rationeel design van deze mixed matrix membranen.

In dit onderzoek operationaliseren we netwerkeconomie door deze term doorheen de tijd te onderzoeken en tot een nieuwe, moderne definitie te komen. De drie onderdelen van deze definitie, namelijk technologie, change management en niet-financiële waardecreatie, worden aan de hand van literatuur onderzocht en onderling gelinkt. De interviews uit dit onderzoek maken duidelijk dat er nog te weinig kennis is over netwerkeconomie binnen de bedrijfswereld.
